2010 Budget

We believe that a budget is more than an important fiscal document, it's also an important moral and political document. Where we put our money shows, more often than not, where we put our values. As a collaborative group, we find it important to make our budgets easily accessible.  Below you will see the tentative budget for 2010.  Until now, the leadership team along with a few supporters, have covered the costs of operation: primarily our website, business cards, supplies for our office and resources, and transportation for recruitment, development, and support. We recently began applying for grants and will begin soliciting on-going contributions from individuals.

If you would like to contribute regularly to Sanctuary Collective, you may do so online or by contacting Brian.

Expense Details:

Training Cycle

The expenses for the "Training Cycle" will support twenty young adults engaged in LGBTQ activism within Christian communities.  This sustained program will foster leadership development and provide practical and specific resources to create justice. The training cycle also includes support for individuals and groups of young adults not part of the Discipleship Program who seek time-limited or occasional support in their activism and organizing.

January Gathering

The January Gathering will bring together the twenty Discipleship Program participants for intensive anti-oppression, leadership, and theological training. It will also serve as a networking opportunity to build connections and partnerships between Christian communities. During their stay, participants will be housed with local supporters, many of whom have experience in LGBTQ organizing.

Recruiting Trip

In the fall 2009, two members of Sanctuary Collective are traveling for seven weeks through the US Southeast.  This area of the country is especially under-served by resources for young adult organizers, especially for LGBTQ organizing in faith communities.  During this time, Micah & Roman will meet with prospective participants and supporters in each city who have expressed interest in participating with and/or supporting our programs. They are assessing and documenting, leading workshops, facilitating trainings, and speaking to congregations and organizations.  These expenses are listed in 2010 expense listing as the trip is tied to programming for the following year.

Support Travel

As necessary, members of the Sanctuary Collective leadership and support teams will travel to provide on the group training, facilitation, and support in communities across the country. Whenever possible, housing will be with local supporters. From time to time, Sanctuary Collective participants and leadership will need to attend trainings and conferences to to stay informed and equipped in order to effectively address injustice.

Staff

Sanctuary Collective is possible through the contribution of time and talent from a growing network of supporters. In order to manage this project, a dedicated staff person is needed. The staff person will spend a majority of time supporting young adults living and organizing for justice in Christian communities. A portion of this person's time will also be spent coordinating with liaisons from the support and prayer teams.

Fundraising

It is standard for organizations to dedicate a portion of their expenses to fundraising activities.  To keep costs low, we use the internet to minimize costs whenever possible.  We also make sure that every event serves multiple purposes: to inform, to inspire, and to engage, in addition to raise funds.

Financial contributions to Sanctuary Collective are tax-deductible under section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code, under our fiscal sponsor, Female-to-Male, Inc.. Contributions can be made online or by contacting Brian Murphy.
