Get Support

In addition to the individual support from the leadership and support team of Sanctuary Collective, we are excited to kick off our discipleship program in January 2010! Participants will self-select into this year-long opportunity for mentorship, leadership development, and spiritual strengthening in the months leading up to our first annual training January 14-18. You don't have to identify as Christian or believe in God to be part of this program, but since we are all working toward creating justice in Christian communities, Scriptural study will be an integral part of our training. We'll also study the reality and interconnectedness of oppression, as well as equip you with the skills you'll need to be an effective leader in your community.

Each participant will be paired with a partner who has already done LGBTQ organizing within a Christian environment. For our first round, this will be a member of our support team, but as we grow, we will be encouraging participants to take an active role in training and mentoring one another. We'll be connecting you regularly with other young folks who are doing similar work in your area of the country on regular conference calls and additional regional gatherings and trainings.

Here's what you'll need to qualify:

  • A vision for your community - we'll work with you to make this happen, but you've got to provide the motivation yourself!
  • A commitment to engaging - we don't want to see you fall off the face of the earth after being connected! To that end - if there are things that are making it difficult or uncomfortable for you to participate, we want to know. Everything we do is informed by the folks we work with, and that includes you. Tell us what you need to make it work!

The Discipleship Program starting in January 2010 has begun. You can meet the stellar participants and keep tabs on their work at the Discipleship Program project page. If you are interested in the Discipleship Program, contact Micah (micah@sanctuarycollective.org / 646-571-8266) for more information.

You can feel free to reach out to us just once, or to receive regular check-ins and support. You can set the pace! We have such a wide variety of people in our network support that it will be possible to connect you with someone who will work best with you. Are you looking for an evangelical Christian? An atheist? A person of color? An older person? A trans man? Someone who has had led a Bible study on LGBTQ issues? Someone who's started a QSA on their campus? Let us know, and we will connect you!

Here's what you'll need to qualify:

  • a vision for your community - the goal of Sanctuary Collective is to support young folks working to make their Christian communities more inclusive to LGBTQ people
  • a desire to connect with someone who can offer you support
