Prayer for Healing & Peace
Submitted by: Vincent Cervantes
We believe in good.
We believe in justice.
We believe in peace.
We believe in love.
How greatly we have fallen and how greatly we have abhorred your loving gentleness.
Indeed, we have allowed our prejudice and our unjust thoughts to consume us and innocent blood has been shed.
Que solo estamos cuando una vida inocente se ha quitado.
Cuando arrojó el sangre inocente porque el mal de odio, nos morimos con él.
How desolate we are when we cry raca without a just cause!
When blood has been shed because of the evil of violence and hatred, all of us have died with him!
Creemos en bondad.
Creemos en justicia.
Creemos en paz.
Creemos en amor.
Infinite source of love, peace, and healing,
wash over our wounds of violence and hatred.
How great is the desolation of our hearts and how vast is the sea of our ruin.
We lift up our voices and we humble our bodies and spirits in solidarity.
May we be restored and whole again in the name of good, justice, peace, and love.
Amen.
Sanctuary Collective prayer team member Vincent Cervantes composed this prayer for an interfaith vigil remembering Jorge Steven Lopez Mercado, a Puerto Rican gay and gender non-conforming teenager who was murdered. We invite you to use it however you are moved.
